Why Adopt a Pet?

Opening your heart and adopting a pet rather than encouraging breeders gives these animals a chance to have a great life instead of being euthanized.

Our Adoption Process

Adopting a pet is a major decision that impacts your family and the life of whatever animal you choose to adoption. Because this is such an important decision, we’re here for you every step of the way to ensure the process goes as smooth as possible. At Blount County Humane Society, our animals come with their full panel of shots and we do our best to make sure they’re placed in well-suited, loving environments that are matched with their specific needs.

The process to adopt one of our pets begins by reaching out to us at (865) 382-7652 or by completing our online application and a member of our staff will get in touch with you.

BROWSE ONLINE – Our website has information about all of the animals we currently have up for adoption. Each pet profile is complete with a description about the pet’s specific needs as well as general stats about them such as if they’re suited for living in apartments or if they place nice with children. Your journey for finding your new best friend starts here.

VISIT US – After you find a potential pet, you’re welcome to come by or schedule an in-person meet to see the animal and discuss potential adoption with a member of our staff. Please call ahead or message us online to schedule these appointments.

APPLICATION – This is the most important step of our process and this is where we will get information from you regarding your living situation and other factors that help us determine if the pet is suited for you and your family. Please answer the questions as honestly as possible and keep in mind, we may schedule a home visit to make sure you have adequate space for your new friend.

FOSTER FIRST – If you’d like to foster a pet before fully deciding to adopt them, please talk with a member of our staff. This is a great option for people who are on the fence about adopting or just want to make sure the pet will be a good fit for their family.

FINALIZE ADOPTION – Once you know the pet is the one you want to adopt, you’ll pay the necessary fees and the pet will be turned over to you. You’ll receive copies of their shot and immunization records as well as any relevant microchip numbers, medication lists, etc. You’ll also have the support of our staff if you have any post-adoption questions or concerns.
